They sit, they stand, they roll, they walk and with each of these firsts we are so excited and so proud that you would think your child is the first and only child to ever do this. You go around bragging, taking pictures, comparing, reading, studying each milestone but if I must be honest – if anyone must ask me now, by the time she is two years old, when did what happen there is just no way I would be able to tell you. Or is that only me?
Time is a thieve, honestly, you think you have so much of it. Before you blink they are growing up, way too fast, and you wonder where did time go? When did my baby become a little girl, when did my little girl become a woman? Sometimes we get so stuck in the moment that we wish time away. Each phase brings with it its own challenges and you become so tired of the sleepless nights, the never-ending why’s and how’s, the non-stop babble, running up and down after them to get them dressed or singing silly songs just to get them to brush their teeth. We are so busy wishing these phases over that by the time we stop and look there they are washing their own hair, choosing their own outfits, using the potty or giving you a complete teenage silent treatment and you wish, just once more, a day filled with why’s and how’s, just one more silly outfit and snotty wet kiss.
I love memory books and keeping track of precious moments, it feels like the only possible way to take time and bottle it – keep a piece of it forever. I try to keep as many records as possible of photos, milestones and even just the small every day moments.
Typo sells these photobooks. It is a 365-day challenge to take a photo every day and write a small piece about it. I love this because it forces you to look at each day and find a precious moment to capture. Some days it is not so easy to see the beauty in anything and yet this make you stand back and look at the bigger picture. Other times it is the small things you find the beauty in.
Chatbooks! Okay so I got swept up in the hype of this app and honestly, I love it, it is quick, easy and affordable, what is there not to love! It makes it so easy to capture everyday moments. I haven’t received my first book yet so I will keep you posted as to how the quality. What I love about this is that you can connect it to your social media or phone favourites and quickly put together a beautiful photo book with captions and dates – this can take you a few seconds or if you are like me, who wants all the photos the same shape, edited, and a custom designed cover – a few days, but either way around it is worth it in my opinion.
I’ve been working on this first year milestone book for the past almost, two years and honestly it is a lot of work and takes so much time, yet it is one of the most valuable projects I have ever done and I know both us and Líla will treasure it for many years to come. As she reached each milestone I ran around like an insane person trying to find a safe place to make a note of the date and each thing she did. As with all parents, I captured these said milestones with a million photographs but then afterwards went and filed each photo according to date and age. Now I have all this information of forgotten memories and photos ready for use to put together a book of her first year.
I love this quote, I have no idea who wrote it but it is so true
“Let your soul be built with a collection of moments. You won’t realize it until much later, but these are the memories that make you.”
